Creating a mini summer capsule wardrobe

Hi!!! Welcome to my stop on the Basically Jalie blog tour, I’m so excited to be joining in!!

If there is one PDF pattern company you should try, then Jalie hits my list every time!! I only sewed my first Jalie patterns late last year, but they are a firm favourite for a number of reasons:

  • Fit – for my family, this has been spot on. I sew by the measurements provided, grading between sizes as needed and I’ve had fabulous results for both myself and my two daughters.
  • Size range – this is phenomenal! Jalie patterns start off in kids sizes and keep on going, all in one fabulous package!! No paying extra for a baby, kid and adult versions, save that money for fabric 😉
  • Variety!! Jalie has you covered for everything from ice skating dresses to snow wear to swimmers!

This time, I decided I wanted to update my summer “uniform” of t-shirt and shorts. I chose the Mimosa scoop neck tee and the Women’s pull on pants and shorts. From these two patters, I ended up with 4 items I can easily mix and match that also fit right in with my RTW wardrobe, perfect!

3 shirts, in 3 new to me fabrics, no pressure, right?!

The blue, made as view A, is a modal from Zebra Fabrics. I ordered it in a hurry ages ago and let sit in my cupboard. It was easy to sew and feels lovely to wear, definitely time to order more prints in modal!

The floral is the flounce sleeve from View B, without the long sleeve. It’s made with bamboo spandex from Bubby and Me and is currently available for preorder. It’s super soft and the drape is spectacular.

The animal print is a rayon spandex from Spotlight. I’m not usually one for animal prints, but thought if I was going out of my comfort zone, sewing for myself, I may as well go all out and add some of this fun print to my wardrobe! it sewed up pretty well, though it’s certainly not as soft as the other two fabric choices.

I made the shorts with a premium linen from Spotlight, it loves to crease but is a really nice weight and softness. I added 2″ of length to my shorts after making a mock up, only because I like them a bit longer. That’s the beauty of sewing, you make them the way YOU like!

I can see myself adding many more versions of both these patterns in a variety of colours and I’m looking forward to sewing some winter versions too!

Thanks so much for stopping by, let me know what ‘basics’ you will be sewing up or which patterns you have on your Jalie wish list!

  1. These all look so good! I haven’t made either of these patterns yet, but I guess I should put them on my wishlist, haha. Those drapey fabrics must be so nice to wear! I have some modal and bamboo in my stash but haven’t got around to sewing them.
